2.6 Heaving Line and Life Ring

Heaving lines are a relatively new equipment requirement.

Equipment heaving line

Many heaving lines are light and because you will generally approach a person who is in the water upwind, you may have difficulty reaching them with a heaving line.

Practice with heaving lines and life rings, before you need to use them. Throw either device underhand, feeding the line out of the other hand. Ensure the bitter end is not released.

Buoyant line must be attached to both these devices. It prevents the line from becoming tangled in the propeller and makes it easier to grasp by the person in the water.
